It's the biggest night in the industry, but how much do you really know about the British Hairdressing Awards? From what goes on behind the scenes at judging to how to earn your place in the Hall of Fame, we've got the answers to all of your most pressing questions.
How do you get nominated for British Hairdresser of the Year?
Each year we ask key people within the hairdressing industry and selected members of the UK and international press to nominate those individuals they feel best embody the role of British Hairdresser of the Year. We’re looking for an individual with an exceptional professional reputation, who must have extraordinary creative and trendsetting ability – but who is also an ambassador for British hairdressing in the UK and overseas.
How do you enter the British Hairdressing Awards?
The biggest night in British hairdressing has 16 awards – nine regional categories and six specialists, as well as British Hairdresser of the Year which you must be nominated for. To enter your chosen category, check the entry pack for the specific guidelines and submit four photographs created in the last year.
What is the British Hairdressing Awards Hall of Fame and how do you get into it?
If you win the same category three times you are inducted into
HJ's British Hairdressing Award Hall of Fame. Your three wins don’t have to be consecutive, they just need to be in the same category each time.
Who judges the British Hairdressing Awards?
The British Hairdressing Awards are judged twice. First they’re judged by a group including past winners, Hall of Fame members and industry icons. For the second round, they’re again judged by past winners, Hall of Fame members and industry icons – and the hair and beauty press.
The awards are judged independently and anonymously in both rounds with absolutely no conferring, and are audited by an independent auditor to ensure complete impartiality and fairness. Judges are not able to see the name or salon name of any entry, and any judge who has an interest in a category – either an employee or who has given advice to any entrant in a category – is excluded from judging that category.
When and where can I see the finalists’ collections?
The first place you’ll get the opportunity to see the finalists’ collections is at
Salon International, which takes place at ExCeL London from 10-12 October. Here they are exhibited in the sleek surroundings of the British Hairdressing Awards gallery, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional.
After Salon International, you’ll be able to see the work of the finalists online at
www.hji.co.uk.
How can I keep up to date with what’s going on with the awards?
The latest news from the awards will always be posted online at
www.hji.co.uk first. You can follow hashtag
#BHA2015 on social media to get up to the minute news as it happens.
What happens on the night of the awards?
On the night, the best of British hairdressing descends on the glittering Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in London. As well as the announcement of those all-important winners, you’ll be able to enjoy unrivalled networking opportunities, a breathtaking show by the nominees for British Hairdresser of the Year, a slap-up meal and a drinks reception. An A-list host and top-name act will also be on hand to ensure you’re thoroughly entertained.
How can I get tickets?
Anyone can attend the British Hairdressing Awards – you don’t have to be a finalist or nominee!
