HJ's British Hairdressing Business Awards celebrated its 10th anniversary this year, with a bash that was bigger and better than ever held at London's Royal Lancaster Hotel.

Andrew Phouli from Rush London took the title of HJ's Business Director of the Year; while there were two coveted awards for Maxwells Professional Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy.

Salon International

Three days of hairdressing education and innovation attracted nearly 50,000 hairdressers from around the world to the ExCel exhibition centre for Salon International.

Some of the many highlights of the inspirational weekend included Salon Live Shows from TONI&GUY, Sassoon Professional, Tim Hartley, Patrick Cameron and TIGI Inspirational Youth; Salon Seminars from hob Salons, Mahogany and Rush; and educational Business seminars from hairdressing leading educators Sean Hanna, Jon MacLeod, Peter Lunn and Alan Austin-Smith.

Vidal Sassoon's 80th Birthday Gala Dinner, sponsored by Ales International, BaByliss Pro and TIGI, was a sell-out success that attracted more than 600 hairdressers from around the world.

The night began with a VIP drinks reception, where crowds flocked to get a glimpse of the man who revolutionised the hairdressing industry; but the evening's highlights were a sensational hair show by a hand-picked selection of leading hairdressers and, of course, an inspiring speech from the great man himself.

British Hairdressing Awards

HJ's British Hairdressing Awards in November saw almost 2,000 hairdressers gather at the Grosvenor House hotel for a night to honour the best of British.

Akin Konizi, of hob Salons was named British Hairdresser of the Year at HJ's British Hairdressing Awards 2008, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professionals.

The glamorous event at the Grosvenor House hotel proved to be a highly memorable one for Akin and the team at hob Salons who also received the Art Team of the Year while head of technical Christel Lundqvist received the Schwarzkopf Professionals Colour Technician of the Year accolade.

Clothes Show Live Young Hairdresser of the Year

The final event of the year, the Clothes Show Live Young Hairdresser of the Year, presented by HJi and supported by Your Hair Magazine, was held at the Clothes Show Live at the NEC, Birmingham in December.

Now in its second year, the competition revealed the extent of up-and-coming talent prevalent in the hairdressing industry, as 19 young hairdressers took to the stage to create an on-trend lady's commercial look.

All the finalists demonstrated great flair, but the big prize went to Megan Zarrabi of hob Salons, while Leah Walton of The Colour Room was named runner up.
