Eileen Lawson.jpgThe National Hairdressers' Federation (NHF) has expressed its appreciation to readers of HJ and users of HJi for responding to the trade association's appeal to participate in a survey in the fight to get the rate of VAT for hairdressing services cut to 5%.

Many visitors to the site and HJ readers took up the call to provide the NHF with information needed to present to Treasury officials at a meeting on 19 June.

Eileen Lawson, NHF secretary general, said: "I would personally like to thank HJ and its readers for taking this industry campaign to its heart. Although we will not achieve our aims overnight, we are campaigning for the long haul and, if we are successful, it will have been thanks to the help we have had from the HJ readership."

Since the NHF led the birth of the CuttheVAT campaign, earlier this year, with its partners habia, the Fellowship for British Hairdressing and the Freelance Hair and Beauty Federation, salons the length and breadth of Britain have inundated their MPs with requests for them to back the industry, according to Eileen.

The Office of the Shadow Chancellor wrote to Harry Walker, NHF president, promising to take his comments on board while developing its policies.
