The UK's favourite high street hair salons have been revealed following the High Street Heroes campaign by SME Insurance Services. The campaign aimed to recognise the successful independent hair salons throughout the country who are bringing life, character and individuality to local communities and high streets.
High Street Heroes campaign
The annual campaign asked members of the public to nominate their favourite hair salons with details about what made them special or stand-out on the UK high street.
According to the survey by the High Street Heroes campaign familiarity (39%), supporting local businesses (39%0 and the selection of quirky and unique shops (22%) are the top reasons members of the public visit a local high street, with over half of those surveyed (53%) stating they visit their high street once a week.
The winning hair salons from this year's High Street Heroes campaign are:
Boris and Co (Leeds)
A barbershop with a reputation of being the first choice for a number of Leeds United footballers. The owner's passion for the business is described as infectious. Barbershop owner Michael Tominay said: "I love what I do and I love my business. I've been cutting hair now for 10 years so I know what works and what doesn't. What works is giving every customer a personal experience and the attention they deserve."
Joules Hair Design (Prestwich, Manchester)
A local favourite and stalwart of the Prestwich high street for more than 25 years, owner Julie Campbell pictured) is described as being clear about what it takes to succeed. "You have to be a people person. There's so much more to it than making people look and feel great when they walk out of the door. People want to feel welcome in a friendly environment. That's the key to repeat business and to long-term success."
Salon M (Wallasey, Wirral)
This salon is described as the area's 'go-to' for colour change, colour repair and colour selections. Salon owner Ian Mcintosh describes himself as being passionate about hairdressing. "I eat, sleep, live and breathe it. I'm proud of still being here for so long after so many knocks and I'm proud that we're doing our bit for the local high street."
