The Hairdressing & Beauty Suppliers Association is proud to announce the appointment of award-winning hairdresser Andrew Barton as its HBSA Wig Industry Ambassador.
In this role, Andrew will shine a much-needed spotlight on the UK’s world-class wig industry, a sector that plays a vital role in supporting NHS patients and restoring confidence to those experiencing medical hair loss.
As Wig Industry Ambassador, Andrew will help raise awareness of the outstanding work of UK wig makers and suppliers, many of whom are small businesses delivering essential services to thousands of individuals undergoing treatments such as chemotherapy, alopecia, and other hair loss conditions. With a market worth over £5 million, this sector is built on compassion, craftsmanship, and a deep commitment to improving lives.
Stephanie Bruce, General Manager, HBSA, commented: “At the HBSA, we fully support our wig suppliers and makers to promote the best standards and services for their clients, but often they are a part of the industry who are forgotten. They are some of the most passionate people, who give amazing service to their clients. That’s why we’re so pleased that Andrew, who is giving his time freely, as well as being already heavily involved in the Little Princess Trust, is now the HBSA Wig Industry Ambassador. Wig suppliers are the unsung heroes, often there for their clients during the most difficult time in their lives.
An important part of our work is also with the NHS Supply Chain, sharing common goals to deliver excellent service and products – something that’s absolutely critical to this industry.”
Nick Allen, Director of Banbury Postiche Limited and HBSA Board Member, added: “The UK wig industry continues to demonstrate world-class expertise, supplying high-quality wigs to thousands of NHS patients each year. These wigs provide more than just coverage – they restore confidence, self-esteem, and dignity. Our members offer inclusive, compassionate, and personalised services, often going far beyond product supply to support each client with care and empathy. We’re delighted to have Andrew championing this vital craft.”
Andrew Barton, whose long-standing charitable work includes his ambassadorship for the Little Princess Trust, shared his enthusiasm: “I’m absolutely thrilled to take on this new role with the HBSA. The work of UK wig specialists is incredibly moving and inspiring – it’s about so much more than hair. These professionals help restore a sense of self, during incredibly tough times, and I’m determined to give their work the respect it truly deserves.”
From developing inclusive wig options that reflect the full diversity of NHS patients, to providing free consultations and styling advice, the UK wig sector continues to lead with heart, professionalism, and innovation.
Andrew’s appointment marks an important step in recognising the industry’s invaluable contribution and ensuring its voice is heard across the hairdressing and healthcare sectors.
