HRCVidal Sassoon against wall.jpgThe international hairdressing community came together to remember the work, passion and dedication of Vidal Sassoon at a memorial service at St Paul's Cathedral in London.

Hundreds of hairdressers, journalists and style icons from across the globe attended the service, which paid tribute to the life and legacy of the late, great Vidal.

Lord David Puttnam CBE - a childhood friend of Vidal's - explained how Sassoon had played a part in changing the country's attitude to class by never hiding his East End orphanage roots, while Jeremy Irons read A.E. Housman's To An Athlete Dying Young. Artist Anish Kapoor also attended, presenting a contemplative urn which he made in honour of Vidal.

Vidal's emotional son, Élan, led the tributes, in front of a congregation including Mary Quant, Michael Caine, Zandra Rhodes and a who's who of the hairdressing industry including Leonard Lewis, Robert Lobetta, Anthony Mascolo, Nicky Clarke and John Frieda.
