Fellowship-hairdresser-of-t.jpgThe festive season began in style for the hairdressing industry at the 25th anniversary of the Fellowship Luncheon and Awards 2009, held at The Dorchester Hotel, London.

Guests gathered for a drinks reception before heading to the sensational dining room for a sumptuous lunch and awards ceremony, presented by Fellowship president Steven Goldsworthy and chancellor and vice president Mark Creed.

"Twenty-five years ago, as stars gathered to support Band Aid, the first Fellowship Luncheon took place and I'd like to thank the fine fellows who started this, such as Mike Sherwood, who were true innovators in every sense of the word," said Mark.

Steven and Mark highlighted some of the Fellowship's success stories of the last 12 months, including non-stop educational shows, the continued growth of Project X and the new innovations, Club Star and the Colour Project.

A video featuring exciting highlights from Fellowship events over the past year was shown with footage from the Cirque de Coiffure at President's Night, catwalks shows and some of the F.A.M.E team's adventures.

Andrew Barton collected a duo of awards - the Media Award, on behalf of 10 Years Younger, and the Hair Ambassador of the Year Award and made a rousing speech urging guests to become state registered and to ensure that their staff were too.

"I promise that I'll speak very loudly throughout the next year regarding regulation for hairdressers," said Andrew. "There's been a media storm over chemical burns and injuries inflicted by hairdressers with poor standards and we need to come together to ensure that the low level of voluntary registrations, rises dramatically."

Industry legend and Fellowship events co-ordinator Ann Herman then took to the stage to give a short overview of the progress of the Fellowship Luncheon and Awards since it's inception 25 years ago.

"I would like to think I was chosen to say a few words not just because I'm the oldest but because I'm the number one fan!" she joked. "I can't believe it is 25 years of wining and dining!

"Let's raise a glass to celebrate not only for the past but also for the future," Ann added before saying grace and leaving guests to enjoy their three-course lunch, wine and coffee.

With guests fed and watered, Steven and Mark returned to the stage to give more accolades, including the first ever Unsung Hero Award,  which Trevor Sorbie MBE presented to Darren Stewart for his work with hair-loss clients.

Alternative Hair Show founder Tony Rizzo was a popular choice as winner of the Lifetime Achievment Award and Peter Collinge became the second ever recipient of the Gold Medal following in the footsteps of Joshua Galvin.

The-FAME-team-2010.jpgOther highlights included the announcement of the new F.A.M.E team, Sean Dawson's 80s-inspired quiff being named the Fashion Focus Image of the Year, which will now be used on all the Fellowship's imagery for the next year and then it was over to the 2008 Fellowship Hairdresser of the Year Mark Hayes to announce this year's winner.

"The words visionary and genius get bandied about too much, but this man genuinely is," said Mark before naming Tim Hartley the new Fellowship Hairdresser of the Year.

With the audience on a high, the celebrations continued late into the night at celebrity hang-outs the Met Bar and Mahiki.
