Hair trends at salon international 09
Didn't make it down to Salon International this year, but still want to know what the hottest looks of the moment are?
Here's a guide to some of the key hairstyles gracing the stands, stages and live shows at the exhibition.
Hair Colour
When it came to hair colour there were certainly two very different camps. At one end of the scale natural, looking multi-tonal colour was given high shine to catch the eye.
These creations featured creamy blondes, rich chocolates and strong mahogany for a wearable yet glamorous feel.
The opposite camp saw vibrant hues of amber, inky black and violet dramatically placed around the hair line or peeking through the base colour for a dramatic feel.
But whether the technicians were in the young edgy camp or opted for more glamorous creations, the one colour in everyone's palette was red.
From subtle chestnuts to rich coppers or deep plums it was all about making a statement and that statement was that redheads rock!
Hair Cutting
Some might argue that it has never been away, but bobs made a dramatic return at Salon International.
Forget the sleek and straight bob of the middle of the decade, today's bob is more voluminous - often crimped to add texture - and is heavily personalised to suit the face.
Short sharp styles were created using scissor-over-comb to undercut tight into the back of the head while hair was left longer on top for a softer versatile look that could be worn on either side of quiffed for an edgy vibe, alternatively disconnected pieces were left longer to give definition.
Long hair was finished with strong eye-lash skimming fringes or strong sweeping fringes for a rock chick feel.
Hair Styling
This has been the year when dressing hair has made its comeback and that trend saw no sign of slowing down.
Crimping was the buzz word, but hairdressers targeted the roots or under-sections for added volume, personalised looks by crimping random sections or brushed hair out for an of-the-moment frizz effect.
Curls and soft romantic waves remain the most popular way to finish hair, but these were soft and editorial and there was an abundance of multi-textured looks that combine curls, crimping, straight hair.
