As well as the key hair looks for the upcoming Autumn/Winter season, several micro trends emerged for those in the salon who want to try something different or stand out from the crowd.

Slicked-back style
Don't hide behind hair this Autumn/Winter - slick it back and show off your beautiful make-up. Over at the Falguni & Shane Peacock show, long layers were pulled back at the sides with the top brushed away from the face. Alternatively, take the top section and pin it back for a smooth, flat finish.

Hat hair
With the rain and wind guaranteed to make an appearance, pop on a hat this Autumn/Winter, but make sure you have anything but hat hair! Whether it is left long and layered or pulled away from the face, smooth is the name of the game. And, it doesn't have to be boring - twist a tail like the models at Margaret Howell for added interest.

Flat out
Don't ditch the straighteners - smooth, straight tresses were one of the looks popping up all over the catwalks. From Osman Yousefzada to Eudon Choi, hair had a strong centre parting and silky-smooth lengths. Shine and colour were key, with the balayage technique continuing in popularity.

Full frontal
One of the key looks from Spring/Summer 2011 will continue into next season - the heavy fringe. Whether it is blunt or soft, make sure it frames the eyes and makes a statement. It can look powerful or sexy - just make sure it looks feminine.
