Hair at 58 has unveiled a glittering new look, following an extensive revamp to expand the salon to four floors of glorious Georgian character.
"I had rented the ground floor and basement for my original salon since September 2009 and last July was lucky enough to buy the entire four storey building to expand the business," explains owner Sam Bell.
The building dates back to the 1800s, meaning attractive proportions and plenty of original elegant features - which luckily the former owner had retained throughout the building's previous life as a book store. "I was determined to work with, not against, the Georgian architecture," confirms Sam, who stuck to a classic mood with a few chic French-inspired nuances.
October 2013 saw work start to extend the salon to four floors, including opening up the building to connect all of the areas and create a light and airy natural flow.
Once underway, the building work revealed some design treasures, as Sam explains. "When the walls were stripped back to their original stone we uncovered two amazing fire places which we've used as great candle-filled features," she says. "And knocking out the maisonette exposed gorgeous textured cobbled limestone behind its walls, original floor boards and the original beams which run through the building – all of which have been incorporated into the salon’s design to interesting and characterful effect."
