HABB-BAll-pics.jpgHairdressers and hair industry workers raised in the region of £40,000 for their charity at the HABB 2009 Black and White Ball in London's Park Lane Hilton.

The charity's chairman Phillip Rogers and new HABB president Lynn Hickey, financial director for seanhanna, hosted the evening that had everything from a charity auction to a raffle drawn by celebrities, awards for some of the industry's kind-hearted individuals and an inspiring hair show.

Kicking off the proceedings, Lynn explained:  "When tragedy happens HABB is there to help, but how we can help is limited to how much support we have throughout the year."

The hosts thanked the manufacturers and media who have supported the industry throughout the past 12 months and gave a new accolade, the President's Award for Exceptional Fundraising, to Alan and Linda Stewart, directors of Rainbow Room International, in Scotland.

Linda and Alan were praised for "turning their staff from hairdressers into pop singers" and Lynn explained that the duo, who have raised thousands of pounds for HABB, are happy to share their ideas with others who want to raise money for the charity.

Later, TONI&GUY CEO Toni Mascolo OBE was given a standing ovation as he received a Humanitarian Award for his charity fundraising. He said: "I am very touched. There must be very many people more deserving than me.

"My father was a hairdresser and his father was a hairdresser before him, but we are all so lucky and I would do this for free. I think we are lucky to do what we do so we should give some of it back."

While raising money was the prime focus of the evening, guests were also treated to a hair show by a combination of some of the brightest names in the industry and up-and-coming talents.

Many of the 15 hairdressing teams chose the evening's 'black and white' theme to create monochrome masterpieces: from Guy Kremer's classy high society updos to Mark Woolley at Electric's avant garde creations that played with textures from soft candyfloss to smooth, with mirror-like shine.

Others, including the F.A.M.E Team - on their first live show experience - experimented with colour. With a pallet of reds and oranges as well as the season's must-have jewel colours violet and turquoise brightening up the room.

Hairstyles on show were created by:

hob salons, Hooker and Young, Electric, Guy Kremer, F.A.M.E Team, Mahogany, Shane Bennett, L'Oreal Professionnel Talentspotting winners Charlie Miller, TONI&GUY, Mark Leeson, Sassoon, The Chapel, the NHF, Wella Professionals Trend Vision UK winners, seanhanna.
