Beautiful blondes and perfect pastels have turned Guy Tang into an internet sensation. He showcased how he achieves his soft, feminine looks using #mydentity at Salon Live.
Guy got his #hairbesties in the mood to party with a thrilling introductory presentation of his trademark models, supported by gorgeous male dancers who ripped off their t-shirts to reveal abs to die for.
As he took to the stage, he explained that this show was going to be an evolution from previous presentations. “I’ve done balayage. I’ve done rainbow hair. I’ve done stripy hair and I thought where do I go from here?" he said. "So, I wanted to bring it back to the fundamentals of what we do in the salon. For me, the most important thing is healthy hair, shiny hair, because if it’s all broken, the hair isn’t going to look beautiful.”
This stripped back approach saw him explain the exact steps he’d taken to create the five key looks on display.
Two stunning blondes were created using his brand new Naked demi-permanent range. He showed the versatility of the colours by colouring one with a pearl-like iridescent glow and the other with the subtlest hint of blush.
As he showcased the beautifully toned looks he told the crowd: “Never tell your client you are toning their hair. They will think you are fixing it! Call it glazing. Glazing makes them feel special.”
Back in the 90s, chunked highlights around the front were the height of cool. It’s a look Guy loved and enjoyed bringing up to date, but he was aware that his model needed to be put at ease during the process.
“When we had to blow-dry the look in between, she looked a little nervous. But the most important thing is communication.
“When you don’t communicate, tension starts building up and the client doesn’t trust you anymore. Communicating during your consultation is the most important thing for your client retention. It’s about the relationship.”
No Guy show would be complete without some perfect pastels. A stunning pink balayage had an almost iridescent glow, while a bob was coloured in silver lavender and cosmic coral for a head-turning two-tone effect.
Guy had kicked off his show with the video for his song SuperPower; what this show once again proved is that his super power is taking complex hairdressing education and making it fun and accessible.
