Childhood Cancer Awareness Month: Great Lengths Continues Partnership With The Little Princess Trust

Published 11th Sep 2024 by Sian Jones

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and leading hair extensions brand Great Lengths is proud to help support those experiencing the traumatic side effects of cancer treatment through its ongoing partnership with the Little Princess Trust.

This partnership, initiated by James Henderson, owner of M Hair Salon in Nottingham and now Great Lengths Global Little Princess Trust Ambassador, underscores Great Lengths' commitment to making a positive impact on communities worldwide.

James has recently been awarded Supreme Status, making his salon the only one across the entire country to achieve this level of recognition. This achievement is partly attributed to his commitment and contributions to the Little Princess Trust, "I am immensely proud to work alongside this remarkable charity. The partnership not only signifies a commitment to providing high-quality hair solutions but also underscores our shared dedication to making a tangible difference in the lives of children battling hair loss," said James.

How Does the Scheme Work?

Great Lengths offers a unique donation scheme in over 1500 salons across the UK and Ireland, as well as in more than 60 countries globally. Clients who opt for Great Lengths extensions have the opportunity to change lives by donating their used extensions to the Little Princess Trust. These donated extensions are then expertly prepared by Great Lengths before being transformed into real hair wigs, provided free of charge to children and young people in need.

"At Great Lengths, we believe in the power of giving back and supporting meaningful causes," says Joscelin McCourt, CEO of HB Collective, the home of Great Lengths. "Our partnership with the Little Princess Trust reflects our commitment to ethical practices, 100% premium hair quality, and making a positive impact on the lives of children and young people."

Great Lengths' dedication to ethicality and hair quality ensures that only 100% human hair extensions are accepted by the Little Princess Trust. The company meticulously selects the finest quality human hair through a traceable and ethical process, starting in India and continuing at its production facility near Rome, Italy.

All processed hair is Remy and Double Drawn, meaning it maintains its natural qualities and is carefully matched according to different lengths. "We are honoured to be associated with the Little Princess Trust and to play a role in supporting children and young people facing hair loss," adds Joscelin. "By choosing Great Lengths extensions, clients not only enhance their own hair but also contribute to a greater cause, making a difference in the lives of those in need."

Most Charitable Salon of the Year

Earlier this year, Great Lengths master Jade Searcy, owner of The Hair Pod, was named Great Lengths Most Charitable Salon of the Year at the brands’ annual GLammies awards night, in recognition of her support for the Little Princess Trust – including the most donations of any UK salon in a twelve month period.

This Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Jade’s hope is that more Great Lengths certified salons and stylists will raise awareness of the partnership: ‘I have worked with Great lengths for ten years and absolutely love their ethics – and their partnership with the Little Princess Trust is so inspiring. It is important to me and my clients to support the charity, because we all know how beautiful and confident we feel with hair extensions. The opportunity to pass that feeling on to those incredibly brave children to make them feel like themselves again is very special, and the most perfect way to end your hair extension journey.’

Why Hairdressers Should Participate in the Scheme

Jade believes that the partnership is yet another way in which Great Lengths is raising the bar when it comes to hair extensions and explains that the initiative can help attract new extensions clients. ‘My advice to other salons who want to make a difference through donations is to bring the scheme up at the initial consultation. It is a HUGE selling point in my opinion, as the hair isn’t wasted, and it really does help these children. Introducing the idea at this stage helps get them excited about playing their part and is also a talking point with anyone that comments on their hair extensions.’

Participating in the donation scheme costs nothing for clients and salons alike, offering a meaningful way for salons to give back to their communities and reduce waste.
