A summer staple and a red carpet favourite, ponytails of all shapes and sizes were the celebrity updo of choice at last night's Women of the Year Awards, hosted by Glamour Magazine.

Former X Factor contestant Diana Vickers opted for a summery low-slung style, worn over one shoulder with piles of texture throughout the lengths and ends.

This slightly matte finish and beachy feel is enhanced further through Diana's subtle dip-dye colour, with blonde lengths graduating from her darker roots.

Offering a more glamorous take on the tail, Daisy Lowe paired her trademark heavy, chunky fringe with a wavy side 'do.

A glossy, high shine finish and loose tendrils give this look an imperfect-but-polished finish.

Bond girl Gemma Arterton wore a similar look, with side-parted hair styled in to a loose, low parting. As with Daisy's boho pony, a shiny but deliberately unstyled finish give this look a relaxed finish.

Also opting for a side-slung style, Tess Daly wore her blond locks loosely styled in a slightly off-centre ponytail.

I would have loved to have seen this style worn with more texture - as it is, the loose piece around the face and the uneven lengths have a slightly unfinished feel, and not in the relaxed, boho way we've seen on the other stars.

Also sticking with a ponytail but with a slightly more retro feel, X Factor runner-up Rebecca Ferguson opted for a high ponytail with movement through the lengths.

This wavy style, with a thick band of hair wrapped around the base, is a beautiful look for Rebecca and very reminiscent of the 60s showgirl styles she often wore on the show.
