Beauty fans have said so long to natural hair lately, opting instead for something far more colourful - like the unicorn hair trend. Even supermodel Georgia May Jagger has jumped on board with the trend, opting a rainbow bright look for summer.
Here, Muse of London's head stylist, Carly, reveals more about the look and how you can recreate it in the salon.
What is the unicorn hair trend?
Hair colour this year has gone from neon, to pastels, to ombre - but now it's time to combine them all together to create beautiful rainbow hair; or as I like to call it, unicorn hair. Channel your inner My Little Pony! Taking inspiration from our favourite childhood toy, the hair is left with an ombre rainbow effect that is sure to turn heads wherever you go.
What colours should you use for this trend?
This look can be created with intense bold colours or slightly faded pastel colours for a softer effect.
What technique should you use to get the look?
Mix a variety of colours together and, starting at the nape of the neck, work your way up. Sectioning the hair as you go, cover the perimeter of each section with one colour from the top down to three inches, then blend in complementary colours throughout the midshaft and ends.
What should clients know about maintenance?
Cients often ask about the growing out process. Because colours fade in and are mixed through the hair, I would recommend a root touch up every four to six weeks to keep this look up-to-date.
Where has the trend come from?
With candyfloss pinks, seafoam greens and majestic mermaid blues being the most popular colours of the season, inspiration has definitely been taken from Kylie Jenner’s blue mermaid hair and popular bloggers and instagrammers, such as @AmyTheMermaid. They have made unicorn hair a trend and encouraged more clients to brave the multicoloured look and really make a hair statement.
