Find out how to recreate this elegant, vintage-inspired layered ponytail updo with our step-by-step by ghd creative educator, Sally Whitehead.

Step 1: Take a square section from the recession to the back of the crown and back brush for height and padding and anchor with grips.

Step 2: Take a 2cm depth section from both sides from underneath the top section, secure the hair with elastic and remove the top grips.

Step 3: Take the tail of the ponytail and flip the tail 270° up and over itself and push under the elastic so the tail is now behind the elastic. Repeat step 2 & 3 until you run out of hair.

Optional Step 4: Place a small elastic at the very tip of the remaining hair. Taking an oblong shaped padding, place on top and roll the hair up to meet the base. Once the hair has been rolled up fan the hair out to ensure the roll has been covered with hair and secure with grips.
