Get set to embrace natural texture

kai-wan.jpgAfter years of straight, smooth hair a new trend has hit the high street - embracing your natural texture. Curls and texture are officially the look of the moment, from soft kinks to tight ringlets.

"For clients with soft kinks in their hair, the best option is to try and create glamorous waves rather than fight against it. This can be encouraged by using the correct products to get the best finish possible. Use rollers at the roots to give it some extra height. Work it as natural as possible, and try to steer clear of fringes. If they do opt for a fringe it should be longer and sit on the cheekbones. Deep diagonal partings to the crown create a sweeping effect, which looks great with curly hair. Curly haired clients know their hair better than anyone. All we are doing is tweaking and educating."

Steve Rowbottom, Westrow Leeds

Best styling technique:

A good technique is twist-cutting, where you eliminate weight without reducing the length. A lot of it is visual with curly hair, so freehand works well.
