Fulerton files -- septemer 2008
SESSION NAIL TECH
POLICE, CAMERA, ACTION
Phew...I'm just back from doing a dozen express 10-minute 'file and paints' in just two hours in the ChiBar in downtown Chicago.
It was for US TV channel TNT, which was hosting a launch evening for the fourth series of The Closer with Kyra Sedgwick (Kevin Bacons wife).
Guests, industry people and fans alike convened to snack on canapés and cocktails and watch the first instalment.
As they checked-in, they were offered a manicure on a first come first served basis with myself and an assistant called Edie that my US agent, Ford, had sent along too.
The view from the bar was spectacular as it's on one of the rivers running into Chicago from Lake Michigan.
One of the show's lead actors GW Bailey, right, previously of Police Academy fame, was there to say a few words. He was a fun, personable chap who took great pleasure taking the mickey of my accent!
He opted for a snack break rather than have me tidy his nails.

The two hours flew by. I packed an assortment of hot summer hues from OPI, Essie, China Glaze, Leighton Denny and Revlon and offered guests either a file, push and buff or a file and polish. These were followed by a slick of cuticle oil (Leighton Denny slick tips or Ciate Love).
All appointments HAD to last 10minutes to fit in all 12 people before the blinds went down and the room was shrouded in darkness and the episode screened.
Chip off the old block?
So how would you feel if one of your clients rocked up and asked for a chipped manicure?
I read a feature in the Chicago Tribune newspaper this week the new look was for the chipped manicure.Ummm. It stated that it no longer solely belonged to the grungey or lazy teenager, but that it had been spotted on professionals women be it in fashion and beauty.
Ji Baek of the (NY and London) Rescue Beauty Lounge was quoted as saying: "Clients wearing equally fabulous bags and shoes are no longer wanting to be too perfect".
But are chipped nail appropriate for everyone or situation in life? A job interview? Your wedding? A hot new date? No I think not!
Another trend or a defiant women?
Or a more reasonable explanation could be that in these tough economic times the ladies of the USA are cutting back on expenditure and the weekly mani has to go with the daily Starbucks?
