Sheila Abrahams, a trailblazer in the world of freelance hairdressing and the visionary founder of the Freelance Hairdressers Association (FHA), has been awarded the prestigious Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her remarkable contributions to the freelance hairdressing industry.
The MBE, announced in the King’s New Year Honours List, recognises Sheila for her unwavering dedication to supporting and uplifting freelance hairdressers across the nation. With over three decades of commitment to the industry, Sheila has played a pivotal role in fostering a sense of community, providing education, and advocating for the rights and interests of freelance hairdressers.
Established in 1993, the Freelance Hairdressers Association has flourished under Shelia’s leadership, becoming a beacon of support for thousands of freelance professionals. Sheila has been instrumental in creating a platform that not only empowers freelance hairdressers with resources and education but also advocated for fair treatments and recognition within the broader beauty industry.
Commenting on the recognition, Sheila expressed her gratitude stating: “30 years ago it was a dream, now it is reality. It has been a fantastic journey, and I would like to thank all of those who helped me through the years. I am delighted that professional freelancers are now where they should be – an integral part of our industry.”
Sheila has been a tireless advocate for freelancers, working to ensure that they have access to training, leading industry brands, professional developments, and fair working conditions.
