evo Announces Winner of Best-In-Hue Competition

Published 13th Jun 2024 by Josie Jackson

Two months, 1,500 entries and a whole lot of deliberating later, evo has crowned the winner of its first-ever Best-in-Hue colour competition.

Colourists across the globe were invited to showcase their creativity by using hue-verse to submit an outstanding colour that is both on trend and created using top-notch professional technique.

Congratulations are in order for Abigael Mccormick (@hairbyabigael) who stole the show with her vibrant entry that featured an elevated copper colour created using hue-verse.

Abigael, who is owner and artist at Collective + Cove in Canada, approached this colour with the intention to have fun and be creative. Her advice to fellow colourists? “Set the goal, mentally set the standard, formulate with intention, be honest with yourself and trust your formula,” she said. “hue-verse has got you!”

Who Were the Judges for the Best-in-Hue Colour Competition?

The judging panel comprised of Jay Kownacki (Head of Education and Product Development at evo), Nicole Kae (Creative Director at evo), Tom Smith (Creative Colour Director at evo), Jules Tognini (Director of ‘good times’) and Belinda Mills (evo Creative Team Member).

Judges Feedback

The judges said that across the board, the standard of work produced was very high. Discussing what made Abigaeil’s entry stand out from the crowd, Jay said: “The stand out feature of Abigael’s entry is the way it shows off the incredible shine that hue-verse provides. The hair is dressed beautifully to complement the colour and technique, while the lighting, angle of the shot and model styling all work perfectly to create an epic shot. The winner has used a clever foil placement to create visual highs and lows within the hair, paired with a perfect copper formulation for depth and shine.”

Tom added: “A great hue-verse formula uses simplicity to allow the carefully formulated shades to do the heavy lifting, combined with clever and thoughtful combinations to customise and enhance the result. Using two complementary tone families in this way gives a beautiful refinement and bespoke quality to the result. Plus, it showcases the earthy and elevated copper tones that have surged in popularity for the last 12 months.”

By taking out this year’s competition, Abigael has won an all-expenses paid trip to Australia to come behind-the-scenes at an upcoming photoshoot and work with the evo creative team.
