Celebrity hairdresser
Errol Douglas has collected his MBE from the Queen at Buckingham Palace and joked that it felt like getting married.
"It feels a bit like a wedding day!" says Errol. "You get dressed up in a morning suit, circle around in the car because you're early for the ceremony and then afterwards you have a big celebration and everyone wants to take your picture!"Errol, who joined Trevor Sorbie, Charles Worthington, Vidal Sassoon, Nicky Clarke and Daniel Galvin in an exclusive band of hairdressers with MBEs, was notified about the award last October.
"When I found out it was incredible." he adds. "I just couldn't believe it. This is definitely the biggest achievement of my career to date.
"One of the biggest things for me was to get my salon, but to get this and to actually be walking in the Palace is unreal."
TV legend Des Lynam, actor Roy Dotrice and a variety of people from all walks of life were also received awards at the investiture and Errol says it was great to see so many people honoured for their achievements.
"It was just brilliant. I met a lieutenant, a colonel, a reverend, one of the beefeaters, a lawyer and Des Lynam.
"It was great to be in a room with everybody because I think that it shows what people can achieve and it shows the diversity of today. It was just such a cross section of society and there was me stuck in there - a hairdresser!"
He adds: "It was such a surreal day. The Queen put a medal on me and she talked to me like she'd known me for such a long time."
