Emmanuel estaban: creating an award-winning collection on a budget As the closing date for HJ's British Hairdressing Awards sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional draws near the planning and devising of photographic shoots is well underway. But with the many elements that come together to make a stunning collection the cost of entering can seemingly rack up. 2018 winner of Avant Garde Hairdresser of the Year, Emmanuel Estaban, managed to create his breathe-taking collection with no budget whatsoever - here he gives his three tips on cutting the cost of creating a collection without cutting the quality. Build a relationships with a photographer that shares your vision on my personal experience i've been collaborating with my photographer for more than 4 years, when i moved to England and my english was not good and he was a still a student, so now we know itch other and trust itch other, the complicity with the photographer is very important, so if i had an advice to give it's : choose a photographer that have the same vision of fashion, art, beauty... than you, collaborate on small project A LOT during the year, even if you will never use the image at the end, it's good for the experience, i've done many shoots where i've been travelling miles and miles, spending lot of time for, at the end not using any images. It's frustating but as long as you don't do the same mistakes after, it's help to evolve in your work. This is for the photographer but it's work also for all the creatives i work with on my personal projects. Have a clear vision for the MAke-up and style yourself For my BHA collection the MUA and the stylist have been AMAZING as they exactly reproduced what i've asked them , and that's because they use to work with me , with my own vision of fashion and hair. The models choice is very important too.   As i've no budget, i can not book adgency models, so it's a long hours spending on internet and on the street finding "cool" girls. The girls have to reflect your collection, they have to express what you feel and what you want to make feel. (if that's make sense.... ) So i tend to choice models with strong personalities, who have singular looks, who can give 200% in front of the camera and who are super friendly too haha .
