Hair is firmly on the fashion agenda and with so much airtime on television and column inches in print devoted to the latest cuts, colours and celebrity looks, the industry is receiving great coverage from the majority of press sources.

In recent weeks, however, there have been a number of negative stories regarding hair colour but all have been in connection with home use and where possible, have been counteracted by a professional opinion on the correct application of colour in the salon. Handling chemicals requires the expert skill of a technician and ensuring that safety protocols are followed in regards to application is critical; but the most obvious immediate advantage to the consumer is the look and finish that can be achieved.

Converting your cut-only clients is one way of increasing business as is being sensitive to those who need colour correction services, but the key to this success is education. Keeping the team's skills up-to-date is essential as advancements are made in colour technology and techniques and with the manufacturer's all offering excellent training, take advantage of what's available. Education is available from a wide variety of sources in this industry so there should be no reason not to participate and as clients can access information readily, using the latest trend terminology and being able to achieve it is a must.
