The second episode of The Big Blow Out gave us colour and a walk on the wild side in a task that tested the contestant's creativity.
We spoke to The Big Blow Out judge Lisa Farrall, Matrix ambassador UK&I, celebrity hairstylist and award-winning hairdresser, for her thoughts on episode two: "The second episode was all about colour and wild things. I really enjoyed this as it gave the stylists the opportunity to be creative and delve into their imagination."
For round one Sam McKnight and Lisa oversaw a creative colour transformation as part of the surprise session challenge for colour brand Bleach London. Described by AJ Odudu as a global hair phenomenon, Bleach London boasts a range of bright, bold colours, so it's clear that this week we should be expecting vibrant creativity. Celebrity stylist,
Alisha Dobson from Bleach London, was the guest judge this week asking the contestants for a dramatic and colourful look that captures people's attention, using a minimum of two colours that fit the brand's style.

Although some contestants used multiple colours from the brand and different techniques to showcase their skills it was also a week where a lot of contestants appeared to be playing it safe, with Sam McKnight commenting "You guys had 18 colours to choose from, you need to lift it up... you've got to push it". Lisa told us: "For the colour challenge we saw secret assassins that really blew us out the park and a few tequila sunrises. A lot of the stylists played it safe, so those that stood out were those that really took a risk. It's all about being unapologetically and authentically yourselves ad showing your pure creativity." After the feedback from the judges can we expect to see some more risks being taken in future episodes?

For the second round, the stylists where welcomed back for their masterpiece challenge. The theme for this week was wild things, and contestants were asked to base their design on one animal species showing their wild side, making sure to use some kind of braiding. The key to success in this challenge was for contestants to interpret the challenge in their own way and use their imagination - all while showcasing their braiding skills. As we know in competitions of this format there are always weeks that plays to some contestant's strengths and this week, Emma was in her element displaying beautiful, intricate braid work.

"With the Masterpiece challenge it gave them the opportunity to think outside the box and showcase their creative talent. We had mechanisms, surprises, it didn’t all go to plan but they all did an amazing job," says Lisa. We can't wait to see what next week holds...
