Desmond murray on men's hair
I had the chance to chat with HJ's 2009 Men's Hairdresser of the Year, Desmond Murray recently - he's featuring in the first issue of HJ Men, out in March.
Desmond shared his views on the world of men's hair, including how much more enjoyable it is cutting for men now that they are willing to experiment. "Gone are the days of whipping out a razor and shaving off the lot," says Desmond. "Men are happy to go for styles and they'll play with product."
The secret of a good men's haircut is to spend time on it, says Desmond. "Working out a man's hairline is vital before deciding on the style. You have to be aware of receding hairlines and cows licks, which often appear at the sides of the back."
Desmond agrees with me that Robert Pattinson will be a major influence on styles for younger men in 2010, although he believes Beckham's reign is a long way from being over. Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys will continue to inspire those wanting longer hair looks, believes Desmond, while James Bond actor, Daniel Craig will continue to appeal to those wanting a more macho style.
