Denman International has released a short film to celebrate their 75th anniversary, documenting their rise from post-war patented design to salon essential.
The brushes were the invention of Ulsterman John Denman Dean (nicknamed Jack) who patented his first designs in 1938.
After the ear, Jack established Denman Products in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire and worked closely with leading hairdressers of the day including Freddie French - who helped him hone and develop the products.
The company was bought by Lindsay and Williams Group in the sixties after Jack was forced to retire and move back to Northern Ireland due to ill health. By coincidence Denman was also relocated back to Ulster, following its inventor home.
Under the next owners of the company - the Rainey family - a determined marketing approach established a strong brand image for Denman. This was given a massive boost when the late hairdressing legend Vidal Sassoon used Denman brushes for his revolutionary blow-drying techniques, and travelled the world creating iconic styles.
Denman will celebrate its 75th birthday next year, and the maxim "designed by hairdressers for hairdressers" remains its driving philosophy.
