Create a rich sunset hair colour

Over the next three months we'll be sharing lots of tips and techniques from some of the country's most-respected hair colourists for improving your hair colour business.
Here is how you can brighten up a dreary day with a pop of colour like this burned orange creation by Christel Lundqvist at HOB Salons.
This look is based on two sections, with the top section formed like an hour-glass and the perimeter remaining. The colour palette for this technique can either express a bold palette or a soft commercial palette, depending on your colour choice.
- Start applying colour to the perimeter section using a block colour technique from roots to ends, starting at the back of the head and working towards the front.
- Once completed, approach section two which is the hour-glass area. Begin by working in horizontal sections from the hairline towards the crown in a roots to ends block work technique.
- To create this image, a vibrant red with mix tone was used to create the redcurrant effect for the perimeter colour, while for the hour glass section, begin by pre-lightening the hair to create a lighter canvas. Then tone this section with a pure tone after development time to create the orange result.
- Hair was then blast-dried and straightened with irons
