Maximum FX won the Marketing Award at
HJ's 2014 British Hairdressing Business Awards. The judges called their entry 'simple, well-presented and clear' - but what did winning do for their salon? We speak to owner Shaun Nichola to find out.
Why did you enter the British Hairdressing Business Awards?
We recently undertook our first major marketing campaign. It was based on the effective use of social media and was coupled with a unique partnership with Harvey Nichols. The impact of this marketing campaign was great for our business and we increased turnover by more than 10%. We entered the award for two reasons: firstly because we were really proud of what we achieved and secondly because we wanted to benchmark our marketing campaign and see how it stacked up against other hairdressing businesses - we were obviously delighted with the result.
What is the value of entering the Business Awards?
It's still early days as we only won in September, but we have leveraged the win as much as we can. We have promoted it on our shop front and have used it in more traditional marketing such as PR and advertising. Enquiries into the salon have definitely increased as a result.
How did it feel to win Marketing?
Amazing! It's the first award that we've ever entered as a salon, and we've been running for over 30 years. For Heyday Marketing who coordinated our campaign it's been a dream come true. Jenny Robertson only started Heyday in October 2013. We were her first clients and this was her first campaign so she is over the moon.
The judges said...
"A low budget for the great results achieved. They've done their research. There's a clear strategy and good examples of successful local partnerships."
"I enjoyed hearing the backstory of the brand, as it made sense of their choices."
"An excellent entry - professional with good KPIs and specific metrics. Evaluation contains key learnings which is crucial but often forgotten."
"Excellent entry which sticks to the criteria and provides evidence to support the claims made. Plentiful data presented in a way which is easily understood."
