The Great North Run welcomes 57,000 runners to tackle the world’s biggest, city to sea course, half marathon. This September, Brian Bannister, Co-Founder of
Coolblades Salon Supplies will be one of them!
CoolBlades provides high-quality salon supplies to hair and beauty professionals and students, offering over 8,000 products from hair clippers and trimmers to waxing, tanning and aromatherapy kits.
Brian is currently in training for the marathon, whilst fundraising for
Bowel Cancer UK, a charity very close to his heart. After his hard work in preparing for the big day, he is confident that by September he will be able to comfortably cover the 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shiels and has big ambitions to raise a target amount of £2000 for the charity.
Brian says: “My wife and business partner, Julie, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in September last year. It’s a scary time for our family and the challenges for the NHS presented by the pandemic have not made the process easier. Thankfully, Julie has a robust treatment plan that is well underway. I decided to turn this experience into something positive and the fundraising run seemed the ideal way.”
Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK and nearly 43,000 people are diagnosed each year. While most cases of bowel cancer are identified in those over 50, it can affect people of any age. Bowel Cancer UK raises awareness of the disease to achieve early diagnosis and offers specialist training for healthcare professionals along with funding research.
