The location of the premises was key and, having secured a bargain price of £80,000 for the property in up-and-coming Workington in Cumbria, Jason was confident that the site would be ideal for the company's third salon.
The former charity shop had been unoccupied for more than a year and needed to be completely gutted with walls taken back to brickwork and replastered. Rewiring and new plumbing were also needed.
The vision was to achieve a trendy, modern salon keeping the corporate identity using the key colours of red, white, silver and black to appeal to a young, professional 18 to 35 year old clientele.
The whole process took eight weeks to complete and Jason says: "It was hard and it was stressful, but it was phenomenal to be so involved in turning a derelict building into a fantastic place."
IN BRIEF...
What were the premises formerly?
A Save the Children charity shop that had been unoccupied for more than a year.
What major work had to be done to prepare the premises?
Part replacement of the roof and a lot of the walls had to be taken back to the brick and replastered.
What was the best bargain of the salon?
The industrial laminate flooring. It will look good for years.
What was the best and the worst thing you did?
Best and worst was sanding the staircase. It was extremely time consuming and a massive effort, but it was worth it in the end.
What was your overall aim for the salon?
We wanted to replicate our other salons. It had to be trendy, modern and spacious, but with a focus on client comfort.
