Championship hairdresser Trevor Mitchell from Trevor Mitchell International in Southampton sadly passed away during lockdown following a long illness.
Award-winning hairdresser Trevor Mitchell found fame in the 1970s and 1980s cutting hair for celebrities such as Sean Connery, TV presenters such as Gloria Hunniford and sports stars ranging from Kevin Keegan to Alan Shearer.
He trained hairdressers from Russia, Japan and the UK for world championships and his 16-page CV features all of his awards and accolades as well as the numerous events he judged over the years.
In fact, he added two more trophies to his cabinet at the age of 79 when he picked up his scissors again to compete in a hairdressing competition as he was keen to inspire his salon team to do the same.
At the time he said: "I did it to inspire my staff to enter competitions so they can follow in my footsteps. I did not think I would win anything at all. The only thing I did that stood out was make the hair look tidy. When I went out there and took part I was shaking and I could not understand it as I had represented England sometimes. This was probably the hardest competition as it was such a long time ago since I competed.”
The team at Trevor Mitchell International paid tribute to their founder: “We are very sad to announce the passing of our founder. He leaves a lasting legacy from his over 60-year career. He has been a huge influence in the hairdressing industry and will be missed by colleagues and clients alike.”
He was a star in his own right in Southampton with the Southampton Memories Facebook page adding: "Trevor Mitchell started his business in Woolston and eventually his fame spread right across the world. He was a Southampton legend. RIP."
