As the Queen celebrates 60 years on the throne, we look back at the changing celebrity hairstyles which have influenced hairdressing trends, clients and photographic collections since her reign began. Here we look at the trends at the turn of the millennium.

With the start of the new millennium came advances in technology and a greater awareness of trends - with services including extensions and fashion colours becoming a firm favourite in salons.

TV shows and magazines had more of a fashion focus than ever, showcasing styles that could be replicated by fans in a flash. Think the Pob, Christina Aguilera's 1940s looks and Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie curls - all looks from pop culture which became huge hits on the high street.

Joy Miller of Junior Green Hair, London says: "Hair has seen its fair share of shockers over the decades; the scrunched curls, the flock of seagulls, the shaggy cut, but what will the 2000's be remembered for? I would argue that the 2000s have been a celebration of texture, and of revival of old classics, bought bang up to date with modern twists - like the Pob."

"What I think has been key throughout this decade is that people have been straying from getting strictly fashion-led styles and gone instead for flattering cuts and colour. How novel! I am an advocate of this movement as while pastel pink hues were gorgeous on Amelia Lilly of X Factor fame, not everyone has the style to match, and the look can come across as trashy if done wrong."

Gisele

"If I could have one look that summed up the noughties it would be this. Beachy tousled waves with caramel highlights weaved throughout to look sun-kissed and natural. I love the easy wearability of this style and am a fan of stepping away from the straighteners to give hair a break. This look works well on a myriad of face shapes because it is so forgiving, it softens harsh features, and complements oval face-shapes!"

Sarah Jessica-Parker

"She was the heroine of the single girl and an incredible force of fashion too. Sarah Jessica Parker was one of TV's most versatile hair leaders, seen here au natural with her loose tumbling curls. This look works because it's not too 'done' or contrived - certainly no 80s perm! Her hair has tons of volume and looks sexy chic, big hair is always going to be a solid choice."

"The queen of modern retro, Christina has had her fair share of fashion faux pas - lest we forget the cornrows! But the style that saved her was undoubtedly her reinvention of the retro glamour look. This revival of old classics, which she spear-headed in the early 200s, has been huge news again lately, particularly with the advent of Mad Men we have seen a real resurgence of old school glamour."

Victoria Beckham

"Victoria Beckham, the icon of the decade in some respects. She reinvents herself time and time again, each new look causing a stampede of girls heading to their local salon, clutching an image of her latest 'do in their palms! She reached for the bleach in this instance, taking her Pob even shorter than the first cut that hit headlines. It was a savvy hair move, because it marked her apart from the other wags, all of whom have a head full of extensions, and was the beginning of her transition to serious fashionista."
