With an established clientele in Framlingham, Suffolk, Adam Snare wanted a larger space in a central location, and an empty property in the town square offered exactly that.

With more than 200 years' history - it had been a family grocers and an inn - Adam had to work around many of the original features in order to get planning permission. He decided not only to refit but to rebrand his business at the same time, becoming an Aveda Concept Salon.

"I wanted to retain the original features while creating a modern interior with the latest décor and equipment," Adam explains.

Design company Reis had previously worked on Aveda salons, and Adam says: "We combined our ideas to create an interior in keeping with the Aveda concept, while incorporating Eastern influences."

Industrial effects in tones of grey and blue complement raw metals and natural woods. The lighting is suspended on tracks above the styling stations, exploiting the space created by exceptionally high ceilings. There are individual spotlights recessed in the lower levels to create a more subdued effect.

Adam designed the reception as a one-stop shop, not just for clients but for passers-by too. The colour co-ordinated Aveda merchandise is displayed in clearly defined, well-lit sections.

Alongside modern materials sit original features like ornate door frames and floor-to-ceiling support poles, which Adam incorporated into the design.

Adam and his clients are delighted with the finished look. "Business is booming and customers adore the new luxurious surroundings," he adds.
