Can you spot these client types in your salon? A recent study for Goldwell has revealed that just one out of ten clients purchase products, but clients who buy products in the salon are 50% more likely to return to the salon for a service. In fact, eight out of ten clients say they are looking for product recommendations, with four out of those ten following those recommendations and making a purchase. So how can you recognise what your clients want when it comes to the products they use? Matt Martin from Goldwell highlights the four main client types - how many can you recognise? 1 The Trend Chaser This client wants the latest thing, and will want to be the first person to wear the latest trend. She is always searching for different ways to get her look and loves to experiment, but need advice and suggestions. She is happy to be guided on products and styles and will always be looking for something new. 2 The Competent This client is driven by trends but she has her own look. She is a high achiever and very confident with her style. She is inspired by new trends but knows what she wants and what suits her. She is looking for advice on the latest, premium products and is willing to invest to get the look. 3 The Classic This client is confident in who she is and doesn’t want to change. She is happy to have tweaks to her style, but isn’t looking for a new look. She has a busy life and time is of the essence, so she wants something that is easy to maintain. Her hair is important but it’s not her first priority. She is open to purchasing products that will make styling her hair quicker, but needs advice and guidance. 4 The Help Seeker This client needs help! Her hair is damaged, her scalp is dry and her colour is fading. She has tried to sort it out herself but not needs help and advice. Her hair is important but it’s nor her top priority. She wants her hair to look nice without having to spend a lot of money on it. She is looking for products that does the job and makes her feel better.   Image: Rex Features
