Ever wondered what it takes to set up your business? Or where to start? Here's some business tips and words of wisdom from Preben Munch Kjaergaard, owner and founder of Scandi brand IDHair.
It can all start with a small idea.
Originally we were looking to create a water-soluble wax. We believed that it could take a big market share from gel. We are a brand that is created by hairdressers for hairdressers.
Treat employees like family.
I strongly believe that if you trust and treat people like family, they will achieve more.
Honesty is the best policy.
Be honest to yourselves, your employees, your clients and the end users. That means that you will only ever provide the best products that take care of the environment and contain premium ingredients.
It's our duty to look after the environment.
We will launch our new Elements Xclusive line in the UK this September and it's our biggest investment yet. It's vegan, gluten free, sulphate free, paraben free and with non-allergen perfume. The bottles are created with already recycled plastic and are from European factories to minimise CO2 emissions. Interestingly the colour of the bottles will vary from batch to batch, because we use recycled plastic and don't use artificial colors to make them look the same.
At the end of the day, sometimes coincidence plays a part.
When I got into the hair industry I applied for four different jobs – two as a salesperson and two as a purchaser. I was so lucky to get three out of the four jobs, but chose the job as salesperson with Wella which led me onto the path I am on today.
