Brits set to spend £3.1 billion on hair and beauty this christmas

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and clients will certainly be looking their best over the festive period as a new study has revealed that UK consumers plan to spend a combined £3.1 billion on hair and beauty appointments in the lead up to Christmas this year.
The research, a survey of 2,000 UK consumers, compiled by Capital Hair and Beauty, examined the nation’s spending intentions in regard to hair and beauty appointments in preparation for Christmas.
Despite the cost-of-living rising, Brits revealed they have no intention of cutting down on their professional beauty routine in the lead up to Christmas, with almost half (44%) planning to spend the same amount on in-salon treatments and appointments that they have in previous years, and a further quarter (23%) looking to spend more.
On average, UK consumers will be budgeting £58.80 for their festive glow-up appointments.
A further one in six (16%) will spend upwards of £100 on their hair and beauty bookings in the weeks leading up to Christmas, whilst 2.1 million said they’re happy to splash out £200 on these.
When it comes to specific treatments, almost half of UK adults (47%) will be opting for a wash, cut and blow dry ahead of Christmas, while just over a third (36%) will be getting a simple trim. Below are the top 10 hair and beauty treatments in the lead up to Christmas 2022:

Following two Christmases of disrupted parties and events due to the pandemic, many are keen to make an entrance this year with one in eight women (12%) saying they’ll be having their hair styled especially for a festive event, and one in ten men (10%) also planning to do this.
With so much demand, salons are set to be very busy during December, but according to the survey, a third of Brits planned well ahead for their treatments, booking in their pre-Christmas pamper appointments in October (35%). One in nine (11%) booked their salon slots as early as September, while 4% – the equivalent to 2.1 million UK adults – secured their hair and beauty sessions even earlier, in July. Despite this, a quarter of UK consumers (24%) admit to leaving their bookings until the last minute, claiming they won’t be trying to book their Christmas appointments in until December.
Samantha Shamplina-Burkwood, Marketing Manager at Capital Hair and Beauty, said: “It’s great to see that as we approach the Christmas season, clients are still prioritising looking and feeling their best and booking in with hair and beauty professionals.”
