Both won at last year's British Hairdressing Awards - now found out what happened when HJ's 2010 Newcomer of the Year, Dan Spiller, interviewed British Hairdresser of the Year Angelo Seminara...
DS: How did you become interested in hairdressing?
AS: When I was younger, I was a bit on the wild side and spent my days running around our small village in southern Italy. My mum said I needed to use my time more efficiently, so she asked a family friend, who owned a barber shop, if I could spend my free time helping out in the salon. I fell in love with hairdressing immediately.
DS: I'm a big fan of tattoos; do you have any?
AS: I really love tattoos and the art of creating them. Although, I don't have any myself, I look and appreciate other peoples' body art.
DS: Who inspires you within the industry?
AS: Fashion stylists and photographers inspire me the most simply because they think outside the hairdressing box.
DS: Who inspires you outside the industry?
AS: Architects, designers and contemporary artists in general inspire me outside the industry - they have a different eye for design and shape. I also find David Attenborough a great inspiration.
DS: If you only had one hairdressing tool what would it be?
AS: A razor - it was the first hairdressing tool I used to cut hair. It allows you to cut, create texture and go from long to short in the minimum of time.
DS: Of all of your collections, which one have you loved the most?
AS: My favourite collection is always the one that I'm about to do.
DS: Who has helped you most in your career?
AS: Trevor Sorbie, my wife Lin, and Tiziana Di Marcelli, who is head of education at Trevor Sorbie.
DS: Can I come on your next shoot?
AS: You are more than welcome!
