British hairdresser of the year nominee: gary hooker & michael young

Gary Hooker and Michael Young are both in HJ's British Hairdressing Awards Hall of Fame - for their individual achievements in winning the Northern and North Eastern categories three times respectively. Being nominated for British was an ambition they have had for many years.

"After entering the Hall of Fame, British was next on our list. We have been consistent players in the industry for almost 30 years and are committed to raising the standards."

In fact, they are constantly raising the standards at shows and shoots, recreating looks that are glamorous and luxurious, contemporary with an edge. "Being nominated as a couple is our biggest achievement, as is building our recognised and respected brand with a great team."

Having a great team is one aspect the dynamic duo love about their job, along with seeing people grow, travelling and meeting new people. The past 12 months have been a whirlwind for the pair, but while life has never been busier, they wouldn't change a thing.

"Life is crazy, manic, stressful and exciting. We are really focused on the brand and opened two more salons this year, with our first franchise. We hope to move more into this direction in the future."
