Boost your career with effective pr strategy Clynol Protege team 2014Are you a young hairdresser looking to build your industry profile and help boost your career through great PR? HJi PR expert Louise Wood offers some invaluable advice. Over the last few weeks we’ve had the pleasure of working with very enthusiastic and upbeat young hairdressers.  It’s been fantastic to see such determination to succeed in their chosen career.  In particular the Schwarzkopf Young Artistic Teams and the Clynol Protégé team have been wowing us with their hunger to learn and they’ve all been asking us how they can get on in the industry to make a name for themselves.  There are so many opportunities out there for young stylists, with manufacturer creative teams, Fellowship for British Hairdressing initiatives and specific awards.  All offer profile building and networking,  but how do you to make this opportunity the first step in a journey to industry greatness. Know your industry It’s no good wanting to wow the hairdressing world if you don’t know what makes it tick!  So get involved with industry initiatives, join the Fellowship, fundraise for HABB and get state registered.  The more you know about hairdressing in an industry sense the more you’ll have to talk about. Be bright, be seen Great advice for road safety but it also works for profile building.  Go to events and don’t worry there are loads of them!  Be seen at Salon International, see the Alternative Hair show, be in the audience for HJ’s British Hairdressing Business Awards and see what the British Hairdressing Awards are all about.  While you are there take the time to network, meet people, introduce yourself to your hairdressing idols.  It may seem daunting but one of the great things about hairdressing is that it’s a friendly industry, hairdressers love to talk and trust us the big names are the first to chat and love nothing more than meeting the rising stars. Get social Twitter is an amazing tool for young hairdressers, you can have easy access to the big guns of our industry.  Talk to them, ask questions, answer questions they asked, it’s a great way to connect, build and maintain relationships. Be press savvy Don’t limit your social media interactions to hairdressers, the HJ team are active on twitter, facebook and instagram.  Follow their accounts and become a part of their social network.  Not only is it a great way to stay in touch with what’s happening in the industry it’s the perfect way to make sure key journalists know who you are and what you are about.
