Birthday celebrations and big beehives

Last week I told you that the salon was pretty quiet - well this week it got even quieter! I can't wait until next week when there are more bookings in the system. Out of the salon, it has been a busy few days, though, because I turned 17 on Sunday. I got lots of new clothes and some driving lessons for my birthday, so look out for me on the roads soon...To celebrate, I had some of my friends round on Saturday night for a bit of a bash. Nights out have developed a bit of a pattern now, with the girls asking me to come over first to fix their hair. I do whatever we have time for: maybe curling it and pinning a few bits up or straightening it and flicking the ends out. On Saturday, I went for a bit of a sixties big beehives look. It looked very cool and I'll definitely be going down that route again.While the girls of the group are all quite taken with my choice of career, because it means I can do their hair, the boys give me a bit of a hard time when I come home from work with what they call 'ginger' hair. For the record, it is copper and it looks cool!

Personally I prefer my hair when I have blonde foils put through it, though. I always have my hair dyed every four or five weeks and cut (or more like nibbled away at) every couple of weeks.That might sound extreme to some people, but it's really important to me. If my hair looks good I feel so much better and more confident and the very idea of a bad hair day is my own personal nightmare. I suppose that's why I'm suited to the industry. After all, we are encouraged to have hair that is a bit different and a bit wild in the salon although they aren't too strict about exactly how we wear it.Robbie was telling us about a place he used to work where you had to be in with the latest trends. A girl with long hair kept being told to have it cut off. In the end, some of them took her in the cupboard and cut a chunk out of it - that certainly wouldn't happen at Forresters and I wonder how common it is (would love to hear your stories…).The only thing of note that happened in the salon this week is that we had a man from ghd in to show us different ways to use them.He went through curls, which is something we could already do, but also showed us how to use ghds to create a bouffant and a really cool finger wave.The finger wave was simple to do and looks excellent so guess what look I'll be trying out on the girls next time we go out...
