From Sarah Jessica Parker's stand-out style in Sex and the City to the late, great Elizabeth Taylor's classic look in Father of the Bride, Hollywood styles continue to influence brides in the current day.

Whether you're after a vintage-inspired look, a veiled style or a sensationally different style, take your cue from these classic big screen brides.

"This picture of Cameron Diaz is from her 90s film Very Bad Things," explains Harps Bhogal, Jericho Salons, Berkshire. "At the time the look was very popular - the sleek style enhances facial features and it's simple but classy. Now that times and trends have moved on, this look would probably be too severe for a modern bride as the current fashion is for very soft, elegantly dressed hair up styles and curls. If brides do want a slicked-back style we would try and create this shape without it looking too harsh, but still with all the hair away from the face for a classic look."

"Sarah's intricate interwoven top knot is a lovely wedding look," says Annabelle Baird, Livingston Hair, Kilbirnie, Scotland. "However, I think a lower style would have better suited her long face shape. The extravagant feather head piece works and the colour looks great, but for girls wanting more of a subtle, classic feel I'd steer clear of statement accessories. Choosing a hairpiece for the big day can often be just as tricky as finding the right dress so try to choose something that will complement the hairstyle and dress, not overwhelm them. A single flower or a lovely clip can look just as beautiful.

"Elizabeth Taylor's look is very characteristic of the era," says Kay McIntyre, McIntyres Salons, Dundee. "The wedding veil may be considered old fashioned but it still remains one of the most recognisable symbols of a bride. Styles have changed through the eras but tradition is still popular and the veil is timeless. It's important that you discuss with your bridal clients if they are considering a veil or any other accessories so you can design a bespoke hairstyle to suit their overall look.

"You don't get any more retro-chic then Grace Kelly's look in this image," says Indira Schauwecker, TONI&GUY, London. "I would say that when considering head pieces you might want to go for something a little more modern, perhaps an ornate brooch-style clip or a vintage inspired headband. The best advice for wedding hair is going for a look that really works with your personal image and considering all the elements - the neckline of the dress, makeup, shoes and so on."
