House-of-Commons.jpgThe biggest names in British hairdressing - including 11 of the 15 British Hairdressers of the Year - created a real buzz at the first ever Hairdressing Council Luncheon held at the House of Commons.

Held to promote state registration for the hairdressers, the lunch was also a celebration of 25 years of the British Hairdressing Awards.

Lady Ann Winterton MP (pictured with Andrew and Liz Collinge), who hosted the event in the Churchill Dining Room on behalf of the hairdressing council, said: "I want to pay tribute to the industry.

"I would like to express my thanks to all of you for the great things you have achieved and the employment you have created. May I thank you and wish you all success for the future."

State registration is something that the British Hairdresser of the Year winners, who are all registered, feel passionately about and their views were reflected by Steven Goldsworthy, president of Fellowship for British Hairdressing and Hairdressing Council ambassador.

He believes registration will help to raise standards and protect clients and explained. "It's about registration not regulation.

"We are the only country left where it isn't compulsory. The sooner we can get 70% of our industry registered, then the sooner it will become compulsory." British-winners-with-certic.jpg

With the three course lunch over it was time to move onto the terrace for afternoon tea where the 11 former British Hairdressers of the Year - Andrew Barton, Antoinette Beenders, Beverly C, Nicky Clarke, Andrew CollingeJohn Frieda, Akin Konizi, Anthony Mascolo, Angelo Seminara, Lisa Shepherd and Trevor Sorbie - were all presented with Master Craftsman Awards by Hairdressing Council chairman Dawson Penn.
