In recognition of Domestic Abuse Awareness Month, Beautypreneurs CIC is hosting a free Lunch & Learn webinar designed to equip salon owners, hairdressers, beauticians, barbers and wellness professionals with the tools to recognise and respond to domestic abuse and safeguarding concerns.
The online event, taking place on Wednesday 15 October 2025, will highlight the unique role that hair and beauty professionals play in supporting vulnerable clients. Clients often visit their hairdressers and beauticians more frequently than healthcare providers, positioning the hair and beauty industry as a frontline for the early recognition of abuse.
What Will The Webinar Cover?
- Identifying signs of domestic abuse, including physical, emotional, financial and sexual abuse
- Approached to safe and compassionate client conversations
- Safeguarding responsibilities and referral pathways
- Building a culture of awareness and support in the workplace
The webinar will also provide guidance for hairdressers and beauticians who may be experiencing or are at risk of domestic abuse themselves, including how they can safeguard their own wellbeing, their employees, and their business.
“Salon professionals are trusted confidants. We don’t just provide treatments; we often listen to personal problems that clients may feel unable to share with friends or family. By providing training and awareness, we can empower frontline hair and beauty professionals to recognise when a client or colleague may be in danger and guide them towards safety and support,” says Michaela Anderson, Founder of Beautypreneurs CIC.
The webinar will be delivered in partnership with Kesis Consulting – a safeguarding specialist organisation whose work is rooted in cultural competence and trauma-informed practice, with a strong focus on domestic abuse, mental health and serious youth violence – and the Hollie Gazzard Trust, which was founded following the tragic death of 20-year-old Hollie Gazzard. Hollie was passionate about hair and beauty and was killed at work in a Gloucester salon by her ex-partner. Her family established the Trust to prevent other families from experiencing such loss by raising awareness in schools, businesses and communities.
Tina Pokuaah, Founder and Lead Facilitator at Kesis Consulting, commented: “From personal experience, I know just how powerful a role beauty professionals play. They are often the ones people feel safe enough to be vulnerable with. Whether it’s a regular client or a one-off appointment, there is trust there – and that trust can be lifechanging. This session isn’t about turning hairdressers and beauticians into safeguarding professionals, it’s about helping them feel confident to spot the signs, respond appropriately, and know how to gently signpost someone to the support they may desperately need.”
Jane Harvey, CEO of Hollie Gazzard Trust, commented: “Hollie Gazzard Trust is delighted to have this opportunity to meet with those working in our beauty and hairdressing sector. This work is understandably close to all our hearts. We want to do everything possible to help professionals stay safe and support their clients by highlighting the warning signs of abusive behaviour. This is going to be a fab event, and as we often say, ‘let’s do it for Hollie’.”
