Bat-inspired hair at christian siriano's new york fashion show

Aveda global creative director Antoinette Beenders took inspiration from the clothes for the Christian Siriano Autumn/Winter show at New York Fashion Week, creating smooth, straight hair. "The silhouette of the style is inspired by the mystique of bats, as is Christian's collection. Hair is tight to the head to represent the body of the bat, and wide in the back to mirror the wing span. We kept the hair close to the head to mimic the body shape of a bat, using the braids as an anchor at the nape, as well as a way to minimise volume. The style is uncomplicated, modern and sophisticated."

1 Prep hair and blow-dry straight.

2 Create a section at the top of the head by parting hair along the parietal ridge and secure on top with a band.

3 Continue and secure the centre section at the back of the head.

4 Comb out the loose section on the left and prep, then create an inverted braid, starting at the temple - 1-2in above the ear - working towards the nape, following the natural curve of the hairline.

5 Secure and flat iron the ends. Repeat on the other side.

6 Release the back section, and iron; letting the hair fall over the braids.

7 Pull the hair back as if for a low ponytail and use metal combs to hold in place. Finish with Aveda Control Force Firm Hold Hairspray to tame flyaways and add shine.
