Ariana Grande’s Hair Evolution

Published 20th Nov 2024 by Josie Jackson

If you weren’t already familiar with Ariana Grande (though with 84.8 million monthly listeners on Spotify, this might be challenging) then you will have at least heard her name in relation to the Wicked movie, where the actress-cum-singer stars as Glinda. To play the iconic role, Ariana underwent a striking hair transformation – a far cry from the bold colour of her teens. Here, we take a look back at some of the star's most memorable hair looks…

Getting Ready to Play Glinda

Ariana’s natural hair colour is a deep brown, however to play the role of Glinda in Wicked, London-based hair colourist Francesco De Chiara transformed the actress into a creamy blonde beauty.

Sweet Like Chocolate

In a promotional shoot for r.e.m beauty, Ariana was photographed with rich chocolate brown locks – and what HJ suspects are extensions, for added thickness.

The Dark Side

In another promotional shoot for her beauty brand, Ariana can be seen taking her dark hair to the next level, with black, wet look waves – making the eye makeup in the imagery pop.

Slicked Back

Whether a half-up, full ponytail or a snatched bun, Ariana is known for her slicked-back looks.

Natural Texture

Not only is Ariana a natural brunette, but her hair texture is also surprisingly curly. While she’s often seen wearing it straight, here’s a little glimpse at what it looks like when the styling is more pared back.

Signature Style

At the beginning of her music career, Ariana was a big fan of an extra-long, extra-high ponytail.

Bold Colour

Can you spot Ariana in this photo? (Hint: she’s the redhead on the right!) Back when Ariana played Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon show Victorious, she had to frequently have her hair coloured to maintain the bold look of her quirky character.
