Are fashion hair cuts a concept of the future?
So Mary Portas had managed to turn around John Peers' Rochdale salon with 'fashion hair cuts'.
If you didn't see the show, the concept was that the salon learned 5 signature looks for the season and charged a flat £25 per client - obviously the idea is that bill would be built up with colour and retail sales.
It seems like a simple but great idea but something I heard today at Wella Business Network made me think it was almost a contradiction of the very thing that makes the hair industry special.
Speaker Caryn Franklin (of Clothes Show fame) said that the thing she loved about the hair industry was that "you care about the individual and listen to what they want.
"The customer is all that matters and you deliver a bespoke product."
I don't know which is right, but I do think there is a lot to be said for each client getting a look that is perfectly tailored to them and their face shape - and if you could get the same bespoke nature to your wardrobe too that would be fab!
