Single--water-bottle.jpgTo celebrate 30 years of trading and caring for the earth, Aveda is aiming to raise a whopping $3million for clean water rights with this year's April Earth Month.

Now in the 11th year, Aveda Earth Month campaigns have raised over $11 million for environmental causes including Global Greengrants Fund, who it has supported for the last three years.

This month's campaign strives to raise funds for clean water rights and calls for strategic local and global action to protect local waterways, promote organic farming, empower communities and help make clean water accessible to everyone--everywhere.

The Aveda 2009 Earth Month campaign includes the launch of a limited edition Light the Way™ soy wax candle sold during the month of April to raise funds and awareness for clean water rights across the globe.

In keeping with the company's ethical policy, the candle is housed in 95% post-consumer recycled and the carton is 100% recycled. Candles cost £15 each and Aveda donate 100% of the proceeds to its global Earth Month partner, Global Greengrants Fund.

I Walk For Water

A new global initiative that acknowledges the daily struggle of over one billion people around the world who do not have access to clean water.

The Walk for Water campaign will be executed locally by Aveda salons and spas, and will encourage network members and guests to take part in a series of walks around the world.

Each walk will cover six kilometers, the average distance that women in developing countries walk to collect water per day, and will take place between Wednesday April 22 and Sunday April 26.

Aveda's Top Tips for Water Conservation and Promoting Clean Water

  • Use less water in your home and garden to prevent wastewater and pollution from runoff. Sweep driveways and pavements, rather than hosing them down.
  • Use pesticides sparingly--if at all--and compost leaves and yard clippings for use as natural fertilizer in your garden or yard.
  • Pick up--and properly dispose of--pet waste, rubbish and other debris in your neighborhood; street gutters and storm drains often run directly into lakes, streams, rivers and wetlands.
  • Keep your car clean and green: choose a professional car wash that recycles its water; promptly repair auto leaks; and recycle used motor oil.
  • Properly recycle electronics, appliances, compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), silver batteries and paint to keep toxic pollutants out of your water.
