Hairstylist Paul Mitchell's son Angus Mitchell has died, aged 53, at his home in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Our thoughts are with Angus' family at this sad time and the hairdressing community that knew and loved him.
Angus partially owned his late father's haircare company John Paul Mitchell Systems (JPMS), which he inherited from him when Paul died in 1989.
After inheriting his father's share of the company, he also opened his own salon, Angus Mitchell Salon, in Beverly Hills in 2010 and worked globally as an educator. Angus was involved in his company's men's focused line MITCH.
Angus had a much-lauded hairdressing career, winning three awards at the Alternative Hair Show.
Tributes from those who knew and admired Angus have been posted to his social media:
Sassoon International Creative Director Mark Hayes wrote: "I just heard the terribly sad news of the passing of Angus Mitchell. Angus was a charming man, talented and charismatic, endearing himself to everyone he encountered. I first met Angus while he was studying at the Sassoon Academy in London and was at once impressed by his humble and genuinely likeable character. I watched as his talent and influence grew throughout his career, becoming a modern icon while never losing his boyish charm. He has been taken from us far too soon and my thoughts are with his family at this time."
Stuntman Tanoai Reed commented: "I just blew you a kiss on FaceTime yesterday. I’ll follow that up with a big hug someday once I see you again. You’re heart and love for life, your friends and especially your family was something I’ve always admired. Thank you for being an amazing person and friend. A hui hou…Until we meet again. Love you braddah"
Life coach Tracey Ftacek wrote: "Always a kind man with kind words. Thankful to have had you as one of my mentors. Prayers to you and the family to lift them up with light."
"I love you Angus. I love you. I love you. My heart is holding you close. As you said to me only days ago, I love you with all my heart Deborah, I too will always love you with all my heart Angus," commented photographer Deborah Anderson.
Cutting Specialist, Wesley Palmer commented "Rip my brother," and hairstylist, Aimmie M. Paraiso wrote: "Rest in Peace Angus! We all carry the name Mitchell for you and your father"
