Angelo seminara's monthly highlights
To say that HJ's British Hairdresser of the Year Angelo Seminara is a busy man would be an understatement!
As well as heading up the award-winning Trevor Sorbie Art Team, Angelo still sees clients in the salon, works on editorial shoots the world over and has even fitted in a stint as the guest editor of HJ!
In a new feature on HJi, we'll catch up with Angelo each month to discuss some of the highlights of his hectic schedule. Here are some of the weird and wonderful things Angelo got up to in May.
HJ Editor - May 7
As British Hairdresser of the Year, Angelo spent the day in HJ's offices in Sutton, working alongside deputy editor Ruth Hunsley to create the June 13 edition of Hairdressers Journal International. On the day, Angelo was kept very busy writing the editor's comment and a feature on his inspiration, as well as interviewing three of his industry icons. He also made time to answer questions that had come in from other hair names.
The June 13 edition also features a stunning sushi-inspired collection created by Angelo the week before.
Angelo says: "It was quite exciting. I didn't know what to expect because I've never been an editor in any sense or in any way. I did know that I liked the idea of editing, because it the kind of thing I'm doing all the time: not papers, but hairstyles or ideas or whatever. I was nervous about how it would end up, but I really enjoyed the day."
MA-KE Show - May 16
Held in the spectacular surrounding of Kensington's V&A museum, Angelo and the Trevor Sorbie Art Team created the hair for L'Oreal Professionnel.Unlike the average job, the bried was that all models were to wear head wraps and that all long hair was to be wrapped underneath.
Angelo says: "I love creating beautiful head-turning imagery, it's always intersting to do something different. This was a static show where the models were placed on light boxes in darkened room and the result was really effective."

The Coiffure Awards - May 17
Angelo headed to Amsterdam to present the 2008 Dutch Hairdresser of the Year Award to Berni Ottjes at Holland's Coiffure Awards.Having already sat as one of the jury members for the Coiffure Awards International Panel, Angelo was treated as hairdressing royalty throughout the night and of course had a ball at the event, including partying the night away to disco classics from the YMCA cover-band They Want You!
Angelo says: "I think the standard was really outstanding and I was impressed with the whole event. It wasn't just the quality that stood out but also the team spirit that was obvious throughout the evening."
