Angelo seminara 'voices': dominic lehane reports
When My HJi member Dominic Lehane - you might know him on the forums as Hair Club Live - told us he was off to see British Hairdresser of the Year Angelo Seminara in action at a L'Oréal Voices seminar, we thought it would be great to hear all about it.
Here is Dominic's report of Angelo's Voices seminar, and I think it is fair to say that Dominic was impressed with what her saw...
"To endure a gruelling three hour journey up to Manchester on a grey Wednesday afternoon, there really does have to be a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
"Well, that pot of gold comes in the form of the current British Hairdresser Of The Year Angelo Seminara, in a L'Oréal Voices seminar at the company's Manchester Academy.
"With anticipation of what is to come, myself and an audience of around 100 people take to our seats where we get to firstly see a show reel of Angelo Seminara winning collections.
"In watching this you could feel there was a real buzz and excitement in the room, as we are about to get a true insight in to what makes this truly extraordinary and rare hairdressing talent tick.
"Enter the man himself, Angelo firstly introduces onto the stage his colleague from the Trevor Sorbie Salon - Creative Technical Director , Eduardo Paludo.
"Eduardo takes us through a quick but a very effective creative colouring technique, which later in the event will show us an animal print effect.
"Angelo returns to the stage to take us through on his first model. With the model's Agyness Deyn platinum blonde hair colour, he went about cutting the hair using an updated firefly technique to create a stunning short haircut - 'inspired from a cliché look you would imagine to see in a Eastern European hairdressing floor competition'; Angelo's words not ours!
"On his second model, he demonstrates a very editorial look on long hair, creating a wave using tongs and then distressing the soft wave by lightly back-brushing the hair only at the roots and ends. To finish the look he works the straightening irons through, to show such a simple technique with a truly stunning finish.
"For model number three we were once again treated to another haircut on the now completed hair colour from Eduardo; and wow did this colour complement this mid-length graduation look.
"The final two models of the evening once more demonstrated Angleo's full range of styling and dressing hair techniques. He firstly dressed his models hair up in a matter of minutes - into a beautiful roll front and back, which would grace any major catwalk runway.
"To finish the evening he then makes a hairpiece live on stage, from a cheap piece of synthetic hair - to which he attached to his models real hair and then proceeds to cut the hairpiece using clippers, creating an amazing Sea Urchin inspired shape.
"On completion, Angelo received a standing ovation from a thrilled audience, who had all not only just witnessed a hairdressing genius at work but also a great ambassador for British Hairdressing.
"So as we took to the road once more there was one thought I was left with; 'Angelo Seminara is gold to our industry'; precious..!"
